Shepu Dal

Shepu Dal



Serves : 4
Preparation Time : 20 minutes
Cooking Time : 30 minutes

Ingredients :

  • 1 cup of Shepu cleaned and chopped
  • 4 - 5 green chilies
  • 8 - 10 garlic pods crushed
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • Pinch of hing

  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 50 gm soaked moong dal
  • 50 gm soaked toor dal
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • Water as required

Method :

  • Soak the moong dal and toor dal for 30minutes and drain it.
  • Pressure cook the dal with required water for 4 whistles, take off the heat and let it cool, blend the dal with wooden hand blender and keep it aside.
  • Take a deep pot heat ghee on a medium flame, add the mustard seeds and cumin seeds let it crackle add the hing, add crushed garlic pods and green chilies and stir it for 1 minute and add turmeric powder mix it well.
  • Add the chopped Shepu leaves, stir it for 2 minutes.
  • Add the blended dal, salt and water as required, simmer it for 5 minutes on a low flame.
  • Do not cook the dal for long or it will lose the Shepu leaves flavor.
  • Shepu dal is ready to serve with steamed rice.
